The NRT presents Kamla directed by Meesam Nazar and written by Vijay Tendulkar. An intriguing look at the morals in Journalism and the sale and purchase of women. Based on a true story. Date: 12-15 July 2012, 8pm Ticket price: Rs. 600/- Ticket Price for students: Rs.300/- (please show your school/college/university ID card) • Play Synopsis: Kamla touches on the concept of modern day slavery and domestic oppression. Jaisingh Jadhav buys a slave named Kamla and brings her home for a press conference where he wants to use her to prove that the flesh trade still exists. His wife is horrified and wants to take care of Kamla. Her uncle, Kaka Saheb, is sympathetic to both sides but mostly wishes to protect his niece from Jaisingh´s domination. Written by Vijay Tendulkar, this play is inspired by a real life incident in India which occurred in 1981. • Director´s Profile: Meesam Naqvi graduated from NAPA with a degree in Theater in 2009 and now works as both a professional director and actor. This is his first directorial venture for NRT. He has majored in acting and has performed in many plays such as Nek Parveen, Mid Summer Night´s Dream, Kanjoos, Khamosh! Yeh Adalat Hai, etc. His interest lies in critically analyzing Tendulkar´s work as this is his third theater project for the playwright. ![]() |
