Profession: Jewellery Designer
Administration by matthias
|Zena Khan graduated from Central St Martin's College of Art and Design, London, in July 2007 with an Honours degree in Jewellery Design. Currently Khan designs and produces both a bespoke, as well as a high end ready to wear range of fashion jewellery. Inspiration is derived from the architectural forms of Mosques and Churches of the ancient world, philosophies of Sufism and portraits of stylish Indian Maharajahs from the 19th century, with fresh infusions from contemporary art and trends.
The highly sculptural pieces are personally hand carved from wax, then, through the process of Lost Wax Casting, converted to silver, and finally plated using a unique shade of 18 Karat yellow gold. Each piece is carefully considered as a three dimensional piece whilst being crafted, equal attention given to the sections not visible when worn, creating truly luxurious works of art.
In 2010 Zena Khan was named one of the Top 40 people in Malaysia. Khan has also won the coveted "Most Innovative Design" award at the yearly Swarovski's Crystals' competition in 2006, with the work featured in Pop magazine. After graduation, Khan honed her design skills as a freelance jewellery and accessories designer in London.
Companies she has worked at include Garrard Fine Jewellery, Long Island Design Firm where she consulted for a host of well known UK retail names, including Accessorize and Topshop, as well as WGSN (Worth Style Global Network).
